Skipton Highlights

Skipton Market

Skipton Market is part of what makes the town such a landmark as "the Gateway to the Dales". With origins in the medieval times, the "sheep-town" was originally a historic place of trade. Nowadays, the market runs four days a week, and purveys a multitude of artisanal items - there is something for everyone!

Skipton Town Hall & Craven Museum

This stunning historic building is a key feature of Skipton's High Street, and the museum inside is fascinating. Suitable for all ages, the museum covers the wide and intricate future of Skipton and the surrounding area. See their website for opening times.

Skipton Castle

Built in 1090, Skipton Castle has been impressively preserved for over 9 centuries. Tours around the castle run throughout the day, and there are many interesting stories to hear from its long history. See their website for opening times.

Skipton Canal Boats

The Leeds-Liverpool Canal is a key feature of Skipton, both past and present. A variety of boat trips depart from the canal basin, and they showcase views of Skipton that you would otherwise miss out on. Book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Walking Spots

Skipton Castle Woods

This ancient woodland is a beautiful nature haven and peaceful walking spot. For those looking for a gentle walk with a few mild inclines, this is a great choice.

Bolton Abbey Estate

The Bolton Abbey Estate is a wonderful walking spot for all types of walks. Being both pram friendly and dog friendly, you can choose the length/difficulty of your walk with ease. See their website for more details.

Burnsall to Appletreewick

The public footpath between the villages of Burnsall and Appletreewick takes you on a gentle walk alongside the majestic River Wharfe. With plenty of picnic spots and natural beauty areas along the way, it is a perfect day out spot.

Ilkley Cow and Calf

The Ilkley Cow and Calf rocks on Ilkley Moor are famous in the area and make for a great day out as well as an invigorating walk. With plenty of footpaths circling around the rocks themselves, both for the adventurous and those who want a smoother course, the rocks are well-worth a visit. Be warned - it gets pretty windy up there, so you'll need to wrap up!

A 2 minute walk away from the site, this cosy country pub has amazing food and friendly service, as well as a well-stocked bar to cater to all your needs. Booking is advised, particularly on weekends.
